Gecko Seeks New Home

The HitchhikerImagine my surprise as I’m driving down the road to have my little buddy here climb onto my lap.  I kept driving as he jumped up onto the steering wheel, ran across the dash and stopped on the passenger side door.  Got this shot after pulling to the side of the road to let my friend out at his new home.

Driving Government Beach Rd. is not for the faint of heart

After a day of snorkeling at the Kapoho Tide Pools, Sharon suggested we see what the road back home via the Government Beach Rd. was like. On some earlier exploring we had started from the north and quickly determined that the road was too intense for the miata. Since we had the Truck this time plus Nick and Angel visiting, it seemed like a good time to explore.

Things started out fine.  A very passable dirt road going through some varied terrain.  At times we were driving through old lava flows with little in the way of vegetation, and sometimes more lush and heavily wooded areas.  We were probably about half way along the road when things started to get…  well… tricky.

Stained Glass Studio Ready to Go

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

Everything has arrived safely in Hawaii and the Stained Glass Studio is ready to operate again. We only take orders for custom stained glass pieces. We will do small to large. Our specialty is custom window pieces for china cabinets, kitchen cabinet doors, transom windows and entertainment cabinets. We will design for you working off your ideas or use a pattern you see somewhere else.

An example of a transom window can be seen in April 2008 at Hilo Art & Glass in downtown Hilo, HI, on the Big Island.

A slice of paradise

DSC00885

A Big move is in progress! We’re leaving the New England countryside and heading for Hawaii. This is a shot of our new home in Ke`aau, HI (pronounced Kay-ow). Keaau is on the Island of Hawaii near Hilo. It’s the wet side of the Island about 90 minutes from Kona by car.

It’s been a logistical challenge to move a household and 5 cats to Hawaii. Hawaii is Rabies free so there is a quarantine process that the cats need to go through that includes a 120 wait following a rabies test. The good news is that Hawaii has introduced an airport release program that allows the wait to take place on the origin side so when we arrive in Honolulu we should be able to get the cats through quarantine on the same day for an inter-island flight.

Needless to say, we’re both anxious to get this move completed! Sharon will be officially moved the middle of January and I’ll be following up the middle of February. Our stuff should get there around the time I get there if all goes well. Of course it means that we will both be living in empty houses for about a month. Small price to pay for our slide of paradise.
